When FedEx delivers, they require a signature. If you're not home they leave a note. They will try again or you can go to the nearest office and pick your package up.
UPS just rings the doorbell and leaves your package on the doorstep, unless someone specifically requested your signature.
UPS is very Authoritarian Fedex is more of a Franchise.
