We do not have a VAT system nor a GST one.
"GST free" refers to goods and services that are not subject to the Goods and Services Tax (GST), which is a value-added tax levied on most goods and services in certain countries, like Australia. Items classified as GST free typically include basic necessities such as certain food items, healthcare services, and educational materials. This means that consumers do not pay GST on these items, making them more affordable. Businesses that sell GST-free products do not charge GST to customers and cannot claim GST credits on related purchases.

I assume you are in the Canadian market and the taxes are in Canada. When buying from a dealer you should expect to pay 13% of tax, both GST and PST. But when buying from a private person you are only responsible for 5% GST.
I think that general effect is negative, GST (or VAT) is the worst tax that authorities created. 1-st, it increase general cost of life in the country, because applied to most goods and services, so all people just pay more for everything, real income of households is lower thanks for that tax. 2-nd, while it supposed to redistribute wealth, in fact GST most heavily affects middle-class, that spends most of their income to taxable items and (as proportion from earning) poor citizens, who spent even bigger chank of their income. So GST role in social justice is not so positive as it could look. 3-rd it is bad for business, because reduces demand, require efforts to administer and often own money to pay. Yes, in theory the consumer pay, but in fact in many cases businesses have to pay GST before they get money from the buyer.
Domestic rental and financial transactions (eg interest and bank charges).
"Subject to GST" means that a particular good or service is liable to Goods and Services Tax (GST), which is a value-added tax levied on most transactions in many countries. When an item is described as subject to GST, it indicates that the final price will include the applicable GST rate, which businesses must collect and remit to the government. This designation helps consumers understand that they will need to pay an additional tax on their purchase.
