Singer went on to developed the continuous stitch machine and he founded the Singer Sewing Machine Company, which became one of the world's largest manufacturers of personal sewing machines. The first electric sewing machine, a Singer, for the home was introduced in 1889.
Singers claim to fame are greatly expanded upon. He claimed rights to many things he did not invent or rightfully own. Pfaff and Necchi both have similar claims of the first electric machine and in further research so will others. Singer aslo was not the first to develope a sewing machine for the home his interest was industrial - he could care less about the home sewer until he realized there was money to be made there that he just had to get his hands on. The sewing machine patent and lawsuit wars for who got the credit were greatly heated and eventually came to some sort of a hault when the Sewing Machine Combination was developed allowing manufacturers to pool their patents and there by charge others a large sum for using any part of the patents. This later became illegal as it was a monopoly that was destroying all but the most weathy who continued to get richer everytime someone tried to build a machine.
