La-la-land is not based on any actual locations found in fiction or reality at the time the phrase was first coined. It refers to someone who is daydreaming and not paying attention to what they are or should be doing. It's based on the state a child is in when they wander around with no particular purpose chanting in a singsong manner "La-la-la-la-la". Usually the child is not imitating any particular song. It's just a nonsense tune that has flashed into their imagination, much like the imaginary fantasy world of their own one might assume the aforementioned daydreamer has entered into when they are found to be staring off into space, unresponsive and totally oblivious to what is going on in the "here and now".
