The Boy Scouts of America reports that:
The largest chartered organization is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with 37,928 units and 412,720 members.
The Boy Scouts of America was incorporated on February 8, 1910, and chartered by Congress in 1916.The Girl Scouts of the USA were chartered by Congress on March 16, 1950.
Depending on the organization, the terms Girl Guides or Girl Scouts are used for member organizations of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS). In the US, Juliette Gordon Low originally named the organization American Girl Guides. In 1913, the organization was renamed Girl Scouts of America and, in 1915, it was changed to Girl Scouts, Inc. Girl Scouts of the USA (GSUSA) was chartered by the U.S. Congress on March 16, 1950.
The main difference is that they belong to different national and international organizations. In the US, Girl Scout troops are members of the national organization, Girl Scouts of the USA. Boy Scout or Scout Troops are members of the national organization, Boy Scouts of America. Each national organization determines the kind of program the troops will use based on guidelines from the international organization. Both organizations earn badges and other awards, however, the awards and the requirements are different. The uniforms are different as determined by the national organization. The way the troops themselves are organized is different.
The requirements to earn them varies from organization to organization. These awards were not created by the Boy Scouts of America, but are approved for use.
The Boy Scouts of America is a formal name and should be capitalised. If you are describing an individual scout that is not a formal name. Example: Tommy became a boy scout when he offically joined the Boy Scouts of America.
Order of the Arrow is not a rank. It is a secret organization within the Boy Scouts of America.
The United States has a large number of Cub Scouts due to the popularity of the scouting program in the country. Cub Scouts are part of the Boy Scouts of America organization.
Juliette Gordon Low organized the first American Girl Guide troop in 1912 in Savannah, Georgia. She continued to support the organization as it grew and was renamed Girl Scouts of America in 1913, then Girl Scouts, Inc. in 1915, and is now known as Girl Scouts of the USA.
As of May 2013, the President of the Boy Scouts of America is Wayne M. Perry.
There was never a "president" of the Boy Scouts of America. However, Lord Baden Powell was the man who created the organization in the early 20th century.
World Organization of Independent Scouts was created in 2010.
National Organization of Scouts of Ukraine was created in 2007.
