Intergroup conflict is a conflict between different groups or teams. Each team has it goals, it ideas of how to do things best, their own leader(s), philosophy or whatever and in order to more their agenda forward if one makes a move the other has to do the same which is where the conflict starts. It can be as simple as the leaders of the two groups don't like each other or are vying for power and influence and they manage to gather around themselves supporters who then support their cause.
