This is an age old question called the Nature/Nurture debate. As I've watched the children of myself and my family grow and go out into the world, I have seen them stray from the values and morals with which they were raised. On the other hand, I've seen young people who were raised by ill-mannered , drug or drink affected, uneducated people who have turned in to responsible exemplary citizens. So I think each one of us is self-determining in the end. We may leave home without the manners and values NOT having been taught to us, but there is something inside that knows there is better , and seeks it out. So, barring any congenital mental defect , it is a matter of personal choice. Reach for the sky.

Strength of character can be influenced by both genetics and environment. Some individuals may have a predisposition towards certain character traits due to their genetic makeup, but upbringing, life experiences, and personal choices also play a significant role in shaping a person's character. Therefore, it is possible for someone to develop a strong character through learning, growth, and self-improvement.
