they did not have breaaks they were slaves
many people worked all the time and made barely enough to survive
George Tucker believed that progress in human affairs, especially in education and economic opportunities, would lead to slaves becoming more aware of their own oppression and yearning for freedom. As slaves gained knowledge and economic independence, they would seek to break free from their masters and the system of slavery. This would inevitably lead to greater disconnection between slaves and their owners.
Carnegie was known for implementing harsh labor practices, including long hours, low wages, and poor working conditions for his workers in the steel industry. He resisted attempts by workers to unionize and often used violence to break strikes. Despite his reputation as a ruthless businessman, Carnegie did establish some employee benefits, such as a pension plan.
It varies depending on the type of work, the slaves, their treatment, etc. The most common forms of resistance we often minor issues geared towards making a point or simply attempting to make the work day easy. Slaves would often work slower to make a point or they would "accidentally" break the tools they were using. Another form of resistance would be running away. The problem with this is it was far more risky, but the reward for success was clearly greater. The most daring and risky forms of resistance would be attempts of murder. House slaves would attempt to poison the master's food, but this was rare. Even more rare would be cases of a slave revolution but, they did happen and in some places (mostly in isolated areas such as the Caribbean) they were successful.
There are various reasons why individuals who were once enslaved might return to slavery, such as economic desperation, coercion or threats from their former captors, lack of viable alternatives for survival, fear of further violence, or manipulation and control by traffickers. Additionally, some may have formed psychological bonds or dependencies with their captors that make it difficult to break free completely.
