A way to make yourself look more Emo would be with 3 main steps

1: Hair Style: The emo hair cut is longer in the front and shorter in the back, usually spiked up with gel or hair spray. swooping your hair to the side is also almost necessary.

2: Hair Color: Emos tend to usually have black hair, id go with either a soft black, or Jet black. If you don't have black hair and you don't want to dye it black, blond is another substitute color, if you go blond, splash in random colors like red, pink, green, or blue.

3: Style: Emo style is typically black, white, or stripes, or any combination of the three. Designs on emo shirts differ from anything to pandas, to skulls. As far as pants, skinny jeans are almost essential, another option is slim fit jeans, a common substitute.

i think some of the so called 'advice is crap on here'. i would class myself as emo and i get really badly bullied for it, its because im different but i love who i am, people shouldn't judge me because i am just myself. emo can be many different things it can be a personality, it can be a type of music (commonly known as screamo) it can be a style, different people would say it is a different thing so you need to decide what it is you want yourself. when you talk about EMO, cutting and general self harm normally is the first thing to come up. yes some 'emo's' do it for attention, i know from my experience that i normally derives from depression and other underlying problems... i turned emo because i felt alone and had no one to turn to, i self harmed and it messed me up, it is really addictive and i hate it when my scars fade, its like its a part of me i don't want to lose, but as long as you talk and be open to as many people as possible you will see how much it hurts everyone around you and that you can eventually manage without it. not to say it is an easy process though i mean i have self harmed on and off for about four years and i have been in hospital numerous times because of it. all in all it is not cool and i mean even if you think it is ask anyone who has done it and they will say how much it messes you and others around you up. so there may be a slight link between emo's and self harming but do not judge an emo to be a person that self harms or someone who self harms to be emo, they are not the same thing and just because you are one doesn't mean you're the other. many emo's i no listen to alot of screamo and rock bands such as bullet for my valentine, EscapeTheFate, Paramore, Youmeatsix, ForeverTheSickestKids, Go:Audio, DotDotCurve, Jbigga, JAYRECK, KingsOfLeon, The Killers, BlackVeilBrides, CuteIsWhatWeAimFor, AllTimeLow, MetroStation, FallOutBoy, Nickelback, NeverShoutNever, Hawthorne Heights, BreatheCarolina, BoysLikeGirls, suicide silence ect. we also wear alot of clothes from websites such as bluebanana.co.UK and clothes shops such as vyper and darkside (just type them into Google and you will find them or just search 'emo clothing' and see what comes up. but it's all about having fun and being totally experimental, take ideas from others but remember its all about being individual. many of us wear converse or vans and we wear a lot of chequered stuff (bags shoes ect), tight skinny jeans, studded 'lowlife' belts and we wear alot of brands such as 'ironfist' and 'criminal damage'. but don't just think you have to stick to these brands because you can find many awesome brands that do cheaper alternatives. Emo 's like to have and experiment with different piercings such as lip piercings, nose piercings ect. The list could go on and many of us have stretched ear lobes( but be careful before you under take this as it can leave really bad long term affects make sure you research it before you do anything to drastic!!) many emo's dye their hair black or dark brown with different coloured highlights, be individual and just do whatever you want its only dye and if you don't like it you can dye it out again to a different colour.

But i mean in the end all you need to be is yourself and don't listen to people who tell you not to be emo, i used to care alot about what people thought about me but then i realised you can't please everybody. Some people will love you and some people will hate you either way i don't care, im not wasting time thinking about it. just remember be yourself dude.
