It's hard and I haven't quite figured out the trick yet but I think just be friendly and try your best to keep relationships with your true friends going. Keep in touch with your old friends but incourage your old friends. It's a full time job and involves A LOT of patience but I'm sure you'll make it:)
Technically their wasnt any segregation in this part of the country BUT in general whites tended to hate blacks and tried at best to keep to their own neighboorhoods away from blacks but you did have your mix relationships though looked down upon it did happen
