It gets people to admit they have a problem, bare their soul to others, get to the root causes, and have a spiritual awakening. If someone is estranged from themselves, their community, or their Creator, then they may turn to alcohol. So the 12 steps deal with those aspects so the person can be less likely to drink. The members are also given sponsors who act as accountability partners and are told to call them instead of drink. Tokens are given out after certain time periods of sobriety to commemorate the occasions and act as incentives.

Alcoholics Anonymous offers support through a 12-step program that encourages individuals to acknowledge their addiction and take steps to overcome it. The program provides a sense of community, accountability, and guidance from others who have faced similar challenges. Meetings offer a safe space for individuals to share their experiences, offer and receive support, and work towards recovery.

Your husband blames you for his alcoholism?

* This is quite common with alcoholics. Your husband is an individual and could have changed the things he did not like in his marriage without reverting to alcohol. Blaming you is simply an excuse. Alcoholism can be genetic. Try getting him to go to Alcoholics Anonymous and you should attend Alanon to understand your husbands problem and also to learn tools to deal with it.

What is the philosophy behind a 12 step program and who invented it?

The philosophy behind a 12-step program, such as Alcoholics Anonymous (AA), is based on acknowledging powerlessness over addiction, surrendering to a higher power, making amends, and supporting others in recovery. The program was founded by Bill Wilson and Dr. Bob Smith in the 1930s, aiming to provide a structured approach to overcoming alcoholism and other forms of addiction.

How do you help my dad stop drinking without him knowing that I'm helping him stop.?

Unfortunately, for your dad to stop drinking he has to admit he is an alcoholic and seek help from Alcoholics Anonymous and you could attend Al-anon which will help you deal with your father's alcoholism. It is extremely difficult to get an alcoholic to admit they are one and unfortunately the family suffers because of it. You are a great son or daughter to want to help your father out and try to understand that under all that drinking your father still loves you, but some people are more prone (sometimes genetic and runs in families) and it is extremely difficult for them to stop drinking. It is possible, but it is up to your dad to want to quit.

Is the AAA a relief recovery or reform program?

The acronym AAA stands for the Automobile Association of America, which is not a relief, recovery, or reform program, it is an organization that offers help to drivers whose cars break down on the road. Possibly you are confusing it with AA, Alcoholics Anonymous, which is a recovery organization for alcoholics. Okay so if you are referring to FDR's presidency and the new deal, the AAA (agricultural adjustment act) was both relief and recovery.

Why are alcoholics have bulbous nose?

As the condition of the liver deteriorates with advancing alcoholism, its ability to deal with fats in the blood (lipids) decreases. The extra fat is deposited beneath the skin in areas with a lot of sebaceous glands. Since the skin in the nose is both thin across the cartilage and also has a lot of glands, the buildup there actually changes the shape of the nose.

How can you make your dad stop drinking alcohol?

Bottom line: you can't. It's not your decision to make. You can encourage him to go to rehab or join a program like Alcoholics Anonymous, but ultimately you can't force him to do it if he doesn't want to.This is one of the hardest things for friends and relatives of alcoholics to face: the fact that it's not your fault, and there isn't realistically a whole lot you can do about it.You might check into some support programs such as Alanon and Alateen that can help you deal with the issues of being the dependent of an alcoholic.

Why do you get hungry again after you finish eating?

It could be because you have an addictive eating disorder like me. As explained in the book 'Alcoholics Anonymous' chapter 'The Doctor's Opinion' I found that when I started eating I got a craving to carry on until I literally could not get anymore in my mouth or I needed a great deal of will power not to eat. When I used my will power I would get constant urges to eat, almost as if the food in the fridge was commanding me to eat it. Fortunately a miracle happened to me and I surrendered and gave up struggling and found by taking the steps recommended by the organisation Overeaters Anonymous I had an 'entire psychic change' I can now just eat three meals a day with absolutely nothing in between, I rarely get food cravings and when I do I use the tools suggested by Overeaters Anonymous that usually helps the cravings diminish if not disappear. I keep going to Overeaters Anonymous and the bonus is I have lost about 150 pounds in weight gradually over a five year period. I have answered more than is asked and I cannot exactly explain why I used to still feel hungry when I had eaten more than enough, as now I do not do it the reason does not matter to me. There is plenty of information about Overeaters Anonymous on the Internet and they have meetings all over the world. The book Alcoholics Anonymous is also available on the Internet.
