If you'll pardon the pun, you've already taken the first step by being accepted by your step-father as his child. With that record on file at your area courthouse, go to the courthouse and locate the section where you can change your name legally. And congrats. Adoption, the biological father has to sign a paper of name change and rights.(sometimes all rights sometimes whatever you want)

In order for a stepchild to take on the last name of their stepfather, a legal name change process must be initiated. This typically involves filling out a name change petition, providing a valid reason for the name change, and appearing before a judge for approval. The stepchild may also need to obtain consent from both biological parents, depending on the jurisdiction.

Yes, either through legal adoption ( which may require the biological father to surrender paternal rights- this also frees him from child support obligations ) or a simple legal name change.

The name change can be made for under $400 in most cases.

The parents of a child are unmarried and the father's name is not on the birth certificate. The mother gave the child her last name. Does she have to change it to her father's last name?

NO. In most states the father of the child must be present at the time of birth to sign the birth certificate as the father of the child. It could, in reality, be any man who would be willing to take legal responsibility for the unborn child. A child will only automatically get the father's name if the two parents are married. Even if the father pays child support, the mother is not obigated to change the child's last name to that of the father.

In Pennsylvania is it mandatory for a child to have his or her father's last name if the parents are not married but the father is paying child support?

If you are no longer with the father should you still give the baby his last name?

That depends on the relationship you have with the father. You can always give the baby your last name. If you intend on asking the father for financial help and to be active in the child's life, then consider giving the child the fathers last name. you can give the baby whatever name you want
