From birth, humans are social creatures. It is critical to our survival. We must first make attachments to our mother, then our father, and later to an extended group. The need to belong is hardwired into us. Without it we die. It is literally critical to our survival.
In short, the social self rises from this need for attachment and belonging, and is rooted within us at birth.
