According to the Department for Transport, between 1994 and 1998, an average of 260 children were killed and 6,600 were seriously injured on Great Britain's roads each year, the vast majority of these children were pedestrians. This figure has been dropping in recent years with only 60 deaths and 2352 serious injuries in Great Britain in 2011.
