Patrick was born about 1,600 years ago in Britain. As a boy Patrick was taken away and made a slave in Ireland. Patrick was a slave for many years and one day he made his escape. Upon returning to Britain Patrick promised to work for the church. Patrick was sent by the church back to Ireland where he spent his life converting the Irish people to be Catholic religion. Patrick converted thousands of Irish people and built many churches, and when he died the Catholic church made him a saint so that is why he was called saint Patrick and that is why we celebrate it.
