The answer to your question is simple: The problem it raises however is fundamental to how we live our lives. It is beyond all doubt that many of us, most particularly those of us who live in Europe & North America, have some cash to spare, most of us, most of the time; & most of us give to charity or whatever every now & then. But it's exactly the same as with food, there is more than enough food in the world to feed everyone, so why do people starve to death ? And this is the underlying problem: People are extremely selfish, even the generous ones. On a recent fundraising event in UK recently an anonymous donor gave £5 000 000: Most laudable. But why has that person got far, far, far more than he needs & someone else, not very far away has nothing at all ? Your egalitarian ideal is fine in principle, I agree with it in its entireity, just as long as you accept that it wont work ! It's just like communism & democracy & stuff: Idealistic & unworkable. Don't get me wrong.... I think charitable events & the like are worthwhile, BandAid for example, but however hard these decent minded people try to achieve what they aspire too, it has to be accepted that they might as well try to push water uphill, & No, I am not saying they should not try. Sadly I am saying they will not succeed. People get in the way. For every $ sent to your scheme 99 cents will be wasted or stolen or used up in some way other than its intended purpose, ok I exaggerate, but I am saying that the costs of such ventures outweigh their product. Human nature defies success for all: As George Orwell says in Animal Farm 'All animals are born equal, but some are more equal than others' ....
