I don't know specifically but I feel the first answer was just completely off (so if someone knows for sure please correct me). I don't believe it has been proven why but its possible its an automsomnal recessive trait which means it is a genetic trait. If it is recessive (its been a while since I've taken biology but..) it can be more likely that a male gets the bad gene. Basically imagine this: there are 3 possibilities BB, Bb, and bb. Only bb will make the child have ADHD. If you use a punnett square you'll find that the only way a girl can get it is if the father is bb and the mother is at least Bb if not also bb. I imagine that ADHD is genetic but like I said it could be something I don't know about like .. mistakes in reproduction of DNA or something.

Well my brother has the condition, and is currently in a steady relationship. I think it could cause some strain on a relationship but its not like the partner wouldn't take ADHD into consideration. Truth be told, it isn't rare nor is it like its untreatable.
