Brazil has the 8th largest economy in the world. According to the World Bank, Brazil is a rich country, but- An extreme divide between rich and poor. Rich and poor live side-by-side in Brazil.

Brazil is a developing country. In recent years it has been experiencing rapid growth, but more recently beginning in late 2010 it has begun to experience inflation and a slowdown, but it is still growing, but at a rate more similar to the First World. I have to differ with the previous answer about Brazil being a rich country. It is decidedly third world in lifestyle and appearance. Shanty towns called "favelas" far outnumber middle class and upper class communities, and crime and graffiti is among the worst in the entire world.
