She discovered that those with tight-knit networks were more likely to have segregated roles as the network acts as a form of social control on the couple. However those with loose-knit networks were more likely to have integrated roles. It has to back never specifically been said whether she was a functionalist and would expect it to be that she wasn't as she doesn't use the functions of society to back up her study within her argument.
