Elementary School goes from grade 1 to grade 4. Kids need to either be 7 when they start first grade or be 7 during the first grade. Middle school is from 5 to 8 grade and there are three years of high school (11 years at all). There are public and private schools. Public schools can be state or city schools. In state schools, the schedule is from around 7 in the morning until noon, or from 1 until 6. Some schools offer grades 1 to 4 in the morning and 5 to 8 in the afternoon, some the opposite way. Only High School grade can be attended in the evening. In city schools, the schedule is from 7 to 11 am, 11 to 3, 3 to 7 or 7 to 11. Private schools have their own schedule, some are even full time. The school year starts on February and goes until November or December. Brazilian schools have more advanced classes than in the United States.
