The conception of mass society can be summarized and defined by these examples:* The revolutions in transport and communications have brought human societies into closer contact with each other and bound them in new ways;

* The division in labor made them more interdependent; and

* Disruptions in one part of society affect all others.

With that said, this greater interdependence, however, individuals have also become more estranged from each other. The previous primary group ties of family and community have become unglued. Primary parochial faiths are questioned as never before.

Of critical importance is that the standards of the well educated top layer of society no longer shape public opinion or morals.

The result are societies that are in constant flux. The old concepts of "mass society" are almost beyond recognition due to constant changes.
