This answer is not necessarily as incorrect as one might believe, although ignorant to the reasoning behind it, this is a somewhat factually correct answer. The Worlds population is expected to increase by 2.6 billion people, according to a UN press release, by 2050. The number of persons over the age of 60 is expected to double from 250 million to about 406 million, whereas the number of people under the age of 60 is expected to drop from 980 million to 863 million people. The food supply does have the possibility of being strained if the world continues to produce at the same agricultural levels, and lacks the ability to innovate in this economic sector. Water will be the driving force for this innovation. Counties who are able to produce more crops, using less water for irrigation, will have a foot up on the counties who do not. The economic gap between the northern and Southern Hemisphere will also likely provide the best guess for where this innovation will originate. Looking at population trends, China and Russia with the most people may be one of the source areas to look as they search for a way to sustain their populations while battling through water and other resource shortages.
