Why do people live in shanty towns?

The area of were slum houses are, are called shanty towns. For people who live in shanty town life is very hard. Not only the houses are small and cramped but the area were they are based are too. Most shanty towns don't have access to clean water and electricity. People have to walk miles just to get some water and even then the water isn't clean .Because they can't get electricity they have candles to light up their home in the dark. There are also no sewers so there is a high risk of diseases. Crime is also big problem in the shanty town; because people have such bad life's they wont to forget. The way the people do this is by drinking, taking drugs. Some even get glue and sniff it up there nose, it makes them forget and not worry about how they are going to sort there life out, get a job and money, which is exactly what they want. This is very bad for their health. Education is another big problem People have to pay to get an education so most children do not go to school because their parents can't afford it. So most people can't read or write. Jobs are very limited because people in the city have better education so they take the jobs and leave the others to wash clothes, pick up rubbish, clean the toilets so on .
