Why do some people dislike Emos?

most people are understanding of the emo society heaps of them have 'regular' friends... but thre are those who just dont understand those people ... Also because Punks and Goths think that emo's stole their sence of style. And if you look up 'emo' it will surlly tell you that emo is more like soft punk in some ways. So most punks and goths don't like them since their more popular and they have been acussed of stealing they're style and type of music.

Yes, (welldone to the answer above :) ) But also there are many that don't dislike emos, persay. but don't agree with the emo cult. They have made depression a conversation piece, and have most likely offended many, by making self harm a fashion statement when most emos are very normal happy people that would never do such a thing. hope this also helps. understand?

Hate may be a strong word.

One reason for dislike - everyone will have their own opinion - is the attitude of superiority that many members of such groups have.

The premise seems to others that those in that lifestyle believe they are somehow wiser or more worldly, and that they think they are being bold non-conformists.

However, to adult eyes, they are kids who haven't been around long enough to be cynical, they've usually had pretty pampered lives, and as to "non-conformity", it has long been noted that they all "conform" with each other in dress, attitude and general outlook.

The whole perception of them being "cutters" and "pretend suiciders" doesn't go down well. And the perception of a group saying "society sucks" while relying on that society to let them be as odd as they like is somewhat annoying.

Just a few thoughts. Most of the time, as much as some might wish to think otherwise, adults don't give many thougts to such, unless one of their kids becomes one.
