In interrogation, you're generally going to look for much more than simple verbal reponses from the perpetrator. You need to look for cues (tells that imply the person is lying/truthful, angry, scared, etc.). These pychological and behavioral traits are embedded in us as human beings.

As an officer, one must understand these cues to be able to properly "read" the suspect. Otherwise, just listening to one's verbal answers is only 10% of what's actually taking place.

Understanding behavioral and psychological principles is important for a successful interrogation because it helps the interrogator to predict and influence the behavior of the individual being questioned. By knowing how people think, feel, and behave under different circumstances, interrogators can tailor their approach to elicit more accurate information and increase the chances of a successful outcome. Additionally, understanding these principles can help interrogators detect deception and build rapport with the individual being interrogated.
