In interrogation, you're generally going to look for much more than simple verbal reponses from the perpetrator. You need to look for cues (tells that imply the person is lying/truthful, angry, scared, etc.). These pychological and behavioral traits are embedded in us as human beings.

As an officer, one must understand these cues to be able to properly "read" the suspect. Otherwise, just listening to one's verbal answers is only 10% of what's actually taking place.
