Why take sociology?

Sociology is overly important to the world. Soc. uses society to explain certain things that humans do. Apart from being very applicable to policy reform and giving you a strong background in stats, it helps to arm you with more understanding of the world around you. With understanding comes possibility and opportunity but only once you understand, "why I didnt get into Harvard" "Why Blacks do poorer on the SAT than Whites" or "How religious education limits your social/cultural capital for your possibilities in careers and your society. Soc. is often times criticized as being dumb obvious facts, "Well I could have told you that more Blacks are on welfare than Whites" but it is because of Soc. that these things are widely known in the first place. Like all academic endeavors, it is a way of viewing the world just like Biology, astrophysics, theology, ect. It is vital.
