Well, because I hated the world(I'm not emo anymore, but I still hate the world). The world's not very fun. You eat, you live, you die. Simple. What's the use of laughing anyways? The world isn't good and never will be in my opinion. I soon bought me an emo wristband, emo gloves, and I didn't go to get a haircut as often.

Anyone can be Emo, it's not really something that matters on your color, height, age or really anything. In my opinion, black people can be Emo's cuse their just like us, only a different color. And no matter how old you are, you can be Emo.
Gerard Way NEVER became emo. Him, Mikey Way, Ray Toro, Frank iero and Bob Bryar are not emo at all. And the band as a whole is no way near emo.
Emo kind of got derived from bands who made depressing music about bad things happening in their lives and it became a lifestyle eventually.

"Emo" is a culture unto itself unless you want to caterorgierize it as a subculture of goth or punk. To answer your initial question emo started in the 60's with a band called Rites Of Spring. Or that's atleast when it really became known about.
I Have a friend at school who does plays and acting and other things that she does..Her and her friends go around calling themselves ''Emo'' because they have black nailpolish on .__. Emo posers are generally really good actors and as soon as the subject of Emo or scene comes up, dive into their character. I should know. I tried emo and became a poser. I stopped that straight away, but gradually over time, have turned Emo. Beware of bullies that's all I can say.
