Bleed all the air out of the system. The air brake check: * Chock wheels, adjust seat and put on seat belt. * Make sure supply air is built up to 120psi (run engine if necessary) and push in parking brake button. If your trailer is connected, push in the trailer air supply button too. If you run the engine to get pressure, push in the buttons when the engine is running; this way you'll pressurize the trailer tanks and not get a big drop in air pressure. * Turn off engine if it's running, then turn the ignition switch to on--don't restart the engine. Watch the air pressure gauges for a minute. If the pressure drops more than 3psi, you have a leak in your emergency brake system--find it. * Hold down the brake pedal for a minute and make sure the air doesn't drop more than 4psi. (Basically, the width of the needle.) If it does, you have a leak in your service brake system. * Start pumping the brakes. You should get a low pressure light at 60psi, your trailer brakes should pop out at 40psi and your parking brakes should pop out at 20psi. The Freightliner I learned to drive in school popped both brakes at 40psi, and that's okay. Make sure to learn this--if you can't do it right the DMV won't road test you.
To check that the spring brakes will engage automatically, start by ensuring the vehicle is on a level surface and the engine is off. Release the service brakes, and then fully charge the air system to the manufacturer's recommended pressure. Next, turn off the engine and observe if the spring brakes engage by checking for a noticeable change in the brake pedal feel or by inspecting the brake indicators. Lastly, you can also manually pull the spring brake release valve to confirm that the spring brakes are functioning correctly when re-engaged.
Yes. see related question below.
spring 2010...check catlogue and website
Empty the air tanks of air and listen. You should hear them come on. Then, GENTLY, put the vehicle in gear, Slowly let out the clutch and see if it wants to move. Don't force it or you'll do major driveline damage and a huge repair bill. $$$$$$$$$$$$
Not likely, but possible.
