Health tourism is traveling expressly for the purpose of engaging in some sort of health procedure.

These procedures do not always mean surgeries ... they can range from Western Medicine to the various traditional medicines (such as Ayurveda, Naturopathic, Yogic, Traditional Chinese Medicine, etc).

There are many countries that now are active in marketing expressly to this health tourism market niche. Many patients save high percentages in the cost of procedures from plastic surgery (very popular in Thailand and Brazil, among other countries) to open heart surgery. People find that the added cost of flights and accommodation still find them paying much less than in the west ... especially the United States.
