A splenuncule is a small accessory spleen that can be found in the body, typically near the main spleen. It is usually a result of the developmental process of the spleen and is composed of splenic tissue. While splenuncules are often asymptomatic and discovered incidentally during imaging or surgery, they can occasionally be involved in conditions affecting the spleen, such as splenic diseases or trauma. Their presence can be clinically significant, especially in cases where the main spleen is removed or dysfunctional.
