Nantyglo Round Towers was created in 1816.
The defences of a concentric castle were round towers - It was harder for attackers to make round towers collapse. Unlike square towers they had no corners, which collapsed if holes were dug underneath the foundations.

its a giant Dildo for giants
The towers on early castles were square until it was realised that incoming projectiles, rocks from catapults and cannon balls did considerable damage where ever they hit the towers. To reduce the damage it was reasoned that round towers would only suffer major damage if struck in the middle. Shot striking off-centre would have some of the force, and hopefully the ball or rock, deflected. This turned out to be the case.
Round tower castles were first built in the late 10th century, primarily in Ireland and parts of Scotland. These structures were designed as defensive fortifications and served various purposes, including as bell towers and places of refuge. The round shape provided enhanced strength against attacks, distinguishing them from more traditional square towers. Their construction continued into the medieval period, reflecting advancements in military architecture.
