A "Dickey Seat" is better known as a "Rumble Seat".

In dictionaries from the 1800's, the word "Rumble" was defined as "A seat for servants at the rear of a carriage".

This is where the idea and origin of a Dickey/Rumble seat in early cars came from, the rear (and very uncomfortable) seats that were on the back of carriages in the 1800's, designed for your servants.
