The proportion of the category as part of the whole.

When you make your pie chart in Excel, set the parameters of the chart to display percent for each data item (slice of the pie).
A pie chart will usually have a legend to indicate what each slice represents. The legend will show the colour or pattern of each of the slices and a description of what it represents that is set by the user.
Because it shows how much each element of a whole unit takes up. So if you had totals for each of the 12 months of a year, like sales totals, a pie chart would show 12 slices, one for each month. You could then have an indication as to how much each month made up of the total sales for the year. You can get the pie chart to show the actual value of each slice of show the percentage each slice represents of the whole pie.
Because you can see how each data item compares to the whole data set. A larger percent would show a larger slice of pie. It will be immediately clear that 50% is half of the pie.

Each value being charted is given a slice. The value is then taken as a percentage of the total of all the values and the slice is given that percentage.
A pie chart is a type of graph that shows data as parts of a circle. Each section of the pie represents a proportion of the whole data set. The size of each slice is proportional to the quantity it represents.
A pie chart will usually have a legend to indicate what each slice represents. The legend will show the colour or pattern of each of the slices and a description of what it represents that is set by the user.
When creating the chart, select the headings with the data and they will automatically be included. If you've already created the chart, go to the Select Data option and you can give each series a name and have a legend on the chart which will identify each bar. When creating the chart, select the headings with the data and they will automatically be included.
