Since you have taken an HCG trigger shot prior to egg retrieval, the HPT will "work" immediately after transfer - however what you will be seeing is a false positive. Generally speaking, your RE will tell you that you need to wait about 2 weeks for the trigger shot to get out of your system before an HPT positive could be considered due to an actual pregnancy. More specifically, HCG has a half life of 33 hrs, so you can calculate fairly exactly when the shot should be out of your system. For example, if you took a 10,000 unit HCG shot on 11/12/07 at 9pm, here's how your calculation might look:

11/12 9pm - 10000

11/14 5am - 5000

11/15 1pm - 2500

11/16 9pm - 1250

11/18 5am - 625

11/19 1pm - 313

11/20 9pm - 157

11/22 5am - 79

11/23 1pm - 40

11/24 9pm - 20

11/26 8am - 10

Note that if you took a booster shot after the original, you must include that amount in your calculations.

Finally, please note that HPTs vary greatly in their sensitivity - some measure HCG only once it's at about 100, others measure as little as 15-20. There are many sites online that list brands by sensitivity, such as:
