How your deal with hook removal depends on the size of the of the catfish caught. For small to moderate sized catfish put the catfish on the ground (or a non-slide surface on the boats). There are four things to be careful of when dealing with a catfish. The two pectoral spines (the front two fins have spines), the dorsal spine (the fin on top has a spine) and the hook.
