Today is 12/5/2009 and I found one of my koi on the driveway when I got home at 7 pm. I picked him up, ready to put him in a zip lock bag for the garbage and noticed him move his mouth. I squeezed him and put him back in the pond. I put him between two nets and squeezed a few times and he moved a little more. He is alive!!
I went to my video camera to see when he left the water and it was 3 pm in the afternoon !! That was 4 hours !! I will check how well he is doing in the morning. But before I went to bed he had joined the rest of the fish and looked well. It was a Heron who lifted him out and dropped him. He was flopping for about a minute or two and then lay still. My camera is about 25 feet away and cannot zoom. The Heron just walked away and left him. Why? I have no idea.
The temperature of the air and water was in the mid thirties. I believe that was the factor that kept the koi alive. The group of koi 50+ that I have are beginning to go into their winter hibernation at the bottom of the pond. When the temperature goes below 40 degrees they begin to crowd together at the bottom of the pond. Today is 12/9/2009 and the injured koi is still fine -- just a few scratches and pokes from the Heron.

But basically, here's what happens in this faux documentary movie: the girl he has a crush on turns out to be a bored, soft spoken housewife who tends full-time to two profoundly disabled sons.
She manufactures her happy life, flirtatious personality, and bohemian family members to escape, not expecting to meet one of her Internet pen pals in person.
So... A bit creepy, sure, but not by any stretch of the imagination terrifying.
Mostly just sad, and all too human. Trust nothing you read online, unless it's on Outlaw, of course.

Yes, a catfish can fin you. The two pectoral fins and dorsal fin have long, hooked spines that dig into skin, excreting venom that may produce extreme pain, necrosis and vasoconstriction (Tightening of the blood vessels). The vasoconstriction is present to slow down the speed at which the venom moves, thus enabling it to be more concentrated and potent. Also, catfish fins house bacteria, and a high risk of infection is present. However, despite all these risks, catfish finning is not usually fatal. Although there are a few cases of large catfish stabbing into a heart with their spines. Some smaller species of catfish's venom are fatal, such as the Striped Eel Catfish. Smaller and/or marine catfish tend to have more virulent stings, where as larger freshwater catfish tend to cause extreme pain and swelling.
Well it depends on the type of catfish. The mudcats just grow until they ate 3-5 pounds. Then the channel catfish that can grow to 2 pounds in just a year. Then there are blue catfish and yellow catfish that can grow from a fingerling to a full- sized adult (75-130 pounds) in just 6 weeks. They'll eat anything so they don't really have a guildline to what to eat so they'll get big. Hope this helped.
