Nicolas Copernicus was influenced by his uncle, after his father died when Nicolas was only ten. His uncle educated him. Also, note people spell his name many different ways so pick which one i guess..

They believed in a universe with the Earth at the centre because the scriptures said that. At the start the Earth was the universe, and the sky was only a part of it. They had no reason to disbelieve the geocentric theory until adequate proof came that the Sun is at the centre, after Kepler's work on planetary observations and Newton's theoretical discoveries.

There was more than one astronomer who agreed with the heliocentric theory and was imprisoned for his investigations. The astronomers were Copernicus, John Dalton, Lamarck, and Galileo.

I am actually doing a report on Copernicus. He took back what he said but right as he was dying they found out that he was right and his last words were. " I knew the sun was the center, all along."

Nicolaus Copernicus said that the earth was not stationary. He also said the earth turned on its axis once a day and he doubted the earth lay in the middle of the universe. He claimed that the sun was the center of the universe and all the planets revolved around the sun. He also published a book on the revolution of the heavenly bodies. His book De Revolutions was his most famous piece of work.

Copernicus proved to mankind that the sun was the center of the universe, not the Earth. We know now that he was mostly correct. The sun is the center of the solar system.

Copernicus was the first to argue that the world we live on, the Earth, revolves around the sun, rather than being the center of the universe around which all other celestial objects, the sun, moon, stars, and planets, all revolve, as had previously been believed. Even aside from the fundamental importance of this observation to the development of the science of astronomy, the Copernican Revolution helped people to overcome naive egocentricism, and to evolve a more sophisiticated understanding of what human beings are, and how we relate to the universe in which we live.

Nicolaus Copernicus was a Polish astronomer. His greatest contribution was to assert that the earth revolves around the sun. At the time that Copernicus lived, the general conception was that the sun revolved around earth.
