Does getting an anesthesia shot in your mouth hurt?
Actually, not at all, depending on how you handle it. Mind over matter.
But typically, the injection itself feels like a toothpick poking your skin, and it really doesn't hurt. Just a quick pinch.
The next day or two, you may have a small headache and some stiffness in your arm, but as along as you ease it, it shouldn't be a problem.
Is general anesthesia a drug adminstered topically for therapeutic effects?
No. That is the definition of a "local" anesthetic. A general anesthetic affects the entire body, either as pain relief or as a means to induce subconsciousness during surgery.
What should be avoided before going under anesthesia?
As a general rule, you should not eat or drink anything after midnight before your surgery. Under some circumstances, you may be given permission by your anesthesiologist to drink clear liquids up to a few hours before your anesthesia.
Some medications should be taken and others should not. It is important to discuss this with your anesthesiologists. Do not interrupt medications unless your anesthesiologist or surgeon recommends it.
Anesthesiologists are conducting research to determine exactly how certain herbs and dietary supplements interact with certain anesthetics. They are finding that certain herbal medicines may prolong the effects of anesthesia. Others may increase the risks of bleeding or raise blood pressure. Some effects may be subtle and less critical, but for anesthesiologists anticipating a possible reaction is better than reacting to an unexpected condition. So it is very important to tell your doctor about everything you take before surgery, including over the counter (OTC) medications.
Hallucinogens are used to treat pain and induce anesthesia True False?
are hallucinogens used to treat pain and induce anesthesia?
No It does not counter the effect of any anesthetic. None What so ever.
PRIOR to wisdom tooth extraction you can smoke or consume up until You actually have the surgery. Unless You expect to get a drug test or think Your oral Surgeon would give You some sort of drug test. Just don't come in reeking of smoke.
AFTER EXTRACTION: The sucking part of smoking anything causes a wind tunnel effect in Your mouth. Even vaporizing will in some cases cause "dry socket" to occur. I suggest if You wish to feel the effect of THC , switch to cooking with it -add it to a butter or fat, make brownies etc... or have a friend "shot gun" smoke it and blow into Your mouth-friends have used straws to administer to the inner mouth that way a basic inhalation-NOT SUCKING on a joint/pipe/vape/bong etc.. After any tooth extraction, just refrain from making a sucking motion or breathing in with Your mouth "o-shaped" cigarettes are the worst.n KEEP MOUTH VERY MOIST.
Besides the injection of local anesthesia and vital signs being monitored during vascular injection procedures. The injection of a contrast medium is included in all vascular injection procedures.
What are the types of anesthesia?
There is one type of anesthesiologist. But they can do different things, there are Anest. that work exclusively for ER/ICU and other specialty wards, and there are OR Anest. there are also CRNA's (Certified Registered Nurse of Anesthesia) They work under an Anesthesiologist, and pretty much do the same exact job with a little bit less responsibility.
How long can side effects from anesthesia last for?
I was wondering the same thing. My husband had surgery two days ago and he's still having sweats, chills, nausea, and a very low fever. He's absolutely miserable. I called the Doctor and they said it was still effects of the anesthesia! The doctor didn't seem at all concerned.
What is the difference between deep sedation and general anesthesia?
Local, or regional, anesthesia involves the injection or application of an anesthetic drug to a specific area of the body. This is in contrast to general anesthesia, which provides anesthesia to the entire body and brain.

What does an anesthesia technician do?
A Nurse Anesthetist or CRNA is registered nurse who has satisfactorily completed an accredited nurse anesthesia training program. In 1980 the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists mandated that all applicants to nurse anesthetist programs must have a minimum of a Bachelor of Science (but not necessarily a bachelor's degree in nursing)-a requirement that took effect in July 1987. Nurse must gain at least one year of practice experience before entering an accredited nurse anesthesia training program. Following completion of a 2 to 3 year program they are required to pass a national certification examination.
Nurse anesthetists are nonphysician anesthetists who specialize in the provision of anesthesia care and participate in the administration of anesthesia in a variety of surgical cases. They are frequently supervised by an anesthesiologist, but may also work under the supervision of other physicians.

What type of anesthesia is used for orthopedic surgery?
It depends upon a number of factors concerning the patient and surgeon and anesthesiologist preference. General anesthesia can be administered and the patient can be rendered totally unconscious. Breathing is provided by a Anesthesia Machine via an endotracheal tube (breathing tube) in the patient's trachea. Alternatively regional anesthesia can be adminstered, either a spinal, epidural, or combination of nerve blocks. During the surgery, the patient is given light sedation and allowed to rest comfortably during the procedure. A spinal is a single injection of a local anesthetic and/or narcotic into the spinal fluid, below the spinal cord. It numbs the area from approximately mid-chest down. An epidural uses a small catheter about the size of a fishing line and does not penetrate as far as the spinal. Local anesthetic and/or narcotics are used as well. The advantage of this is that it can be redosed with medication if the surgery proceeds longer than expected and can be used afterwards for pain control as well. As always, a thorough discussion with your Surgeon and Anesthesiologist should be undertaken prior to your Surgery to decide which options are available and which is best for you.
Will anesthesia show up on a drug test?
Yeah, but don't sweat it much: if you tell the tester you had an operation, and you DID have an operation, they'll know you needed general anesthesia so any general anesthetic that shows up will be okay. General anesthetic is one of those classes of drugs I don't understand wanting to abuse--how much fun is a drug that just makes you fall asleep? If you're gonna do drugs, wouldn't you want to be awake for it?
How long can you be under anesthesia?
There is no evidence that the duration of general anesthesia by itself increases the risks of anesthesia complications. Studies of anesthesia-related risk have shown correlation with other factors, such as:
Obviously, anesthetic outcomes are also related to the skill and experience of the anesthesiologist that is taking care of you. The anesthetic needs to be tailored to your medical condition, to the surgery itself, and wherever possible, to your individual preferences.

How could circumcision be performed WITHOUT anesthesia?
Anesthesia wasn't always available, and it was thought the baby's nerves aren't fully developed enough to feel REAL pain. This isn't true, since I've read stories about the Jewish Bris, where babies have "screamed their lungs out."
ALL surgeries have risks, but I think it's barbaric in inhumane to NOT use anethesia!
The reason baby's are doe without anesthesia is because it can be dangerous to them. Doctors realise that circumcision is a beastly and barbaric pastime and I doubt that doctors that would lower themselves to doing this really care. it is done to baby's because the trauma helps them forget or at least keep the extreme pain submerged in the subconscious. It is the most painful thing that can be done to a child, they are just not in a position to do anything about it when they are strapped down.
