When shooting in her sixties her costumes were matronly, dark and full length with a matching formal bonnet. There has been speculation as to whether she was also sexually abused as was common among ne'er-do-well girls in her circumstances, but she never mentioned it explicitly in any known record.

All productions are different, but in the touring and Broadway productions, all Annies have cut and dyed their hair red for the beginning of the show and put curly wigs on for the ending scenes.
