The best thing to do is leave it alone. Dont take a risk to harm the bird to kill the ants. The mom or the baby bird will figure out what to do. Ants might even be food for the baby bird.

It is hard to imagine why any person of good will would want to get rid of ant mimicking spiders. They are clean, harmless and very interesting little creatures, often useful, and very cute. Get yourself a nice big lens and have a good close look next time you see one. You might even see one catch a mosquito or an ant. You are lucky to have them in your dwelling; to see anything nearly as interesting in a zoo would cost you plenty.

Yep, ants do contain formic acid to spray on their attackers but this isn't released while drowning. The drink is fine.

After 2 weeks of spraying various nonpoisonous mixtures of peppermint, orange, etc. oils & failing to deter the small black ant invasion coming from a common wall with a neighbor, I tried sprinkling Bon Ami on the ant trail. To my surprise, no more ants! As to whether it kills ants, I don't know the answer. But it does cause them to disappear.
