You have to get a person's permission to perform a background check. Most would assume that if you wanted the permission and got it, that you had then done the check. The details of any such check are also sent to the person being checked.

When using public records for personal purposes (dating, finding about your ex, etc.) they do not need to know provided you are not using public records to hire, rent or extend credit to this person based upon their background check results. Nor is it really traceable.

There is something called The Gramm-Leach Bliley Act (GLB) that governs this type of public records information gathering for personal use only. This is still a gray area though where some privacy concerns are to be respected.

If the background check is being used for hiring, rental, credit extension and so forth, then you do have to get signed permission and provide them copy of report. Look up the Fair Credit Report Act for tons of info.

This depends on how extensive of a background check is done. If a background check involves the FBI, a fingerprint card is submitted to the FBI to check against any arrests made in the United States, whether by that state Government or the federal Government. These types of background checks are reserved for individuals who are applying for sensitive jobs, such as working with children, classified information, etc. For usual state background checks, each state has a law-enforcement repository which keeps records of any arrests and/or convictions in that state only. For example, Florida's law-enforcement repository is the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, or FDLE. South Carolina has a catchy name, SLED, or the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division. Any time somenone is arrested in Florida, fingerprinted and photographed, a copy of such fingerprints are sent to FDLE. The same is true in South Carolina to SLED. In Florida they don't have information, typically, of the disposition of the case, whereas South Caroline does, because in the latter, SLED won't accept and keep information if someone has been acquitted or their adjudication withheld. In both of these states such arrest records are easy to look up on their websites, which charge a fee for this service. The return of such records, or lack thereof, is instant and the results can be printed. Both states charge $25 for this. Arrests involving no fingerprinting generally don't show up in these records. In South Carolina information on a conviction for certain offenses is sent to SLED.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) conducts a thorough background check of the Supreme Court nominee. This includes record checks from schools and former employers, as well as interviews with friends and colleagues.

The FBI then compiles a report and provides it to the Senate Judiciary Committee. The Committee makes a preliminary determination about the candidate's suitability, then formulates questions related to the individual's personal and professional life, which they supply the nominee before his or her Senate Judiciary hearing.

There are commercial websites that advertise themselves as being able to supply all kinds of background information and checks. They cannot! They only have access to the PUBLICLY VIEWABLE files which government agencies PUBLISH to the web. There are manyrecords, files, and information which is only viewable to selected conusmers of that information. A good example is the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) computer which is perhaops the best known. The information available via this network is available ONLY to law enforcement agencies via closed and secure network. .

Yes they do. by doing background checks they get a chance to see if they are about get someone with a violent crime history or a theft or any other serious crimes many of the actors or even models have been turned away from working with agents or studios because of these things. Sometimes they mess up after they started working with them a then they choose not to work with them again. It's not like the music industry which is all about the money.

Despite some advertising to the contrary - there are NO websites or databases (free or otherwise) that are available to the general public for checking criminal histories and backgrounds.

You will have to submit a complete medical history and undergo a complete physical examination. AND don't be surprised if you also must undergo a psychological examination as well.

Probably not on a criminal record unless there was an arrest made for some reason in connection with it, but, there is no such criminal charge as "eviction.' However: If you were evicted because of unpaid rent, it might very well show up on your credit report as part of your credit history.

The military will have individuals fill out a medical health survey. If they lie about their past conditions, they can be subject to court martial and dis-honorable discharge. And a background check will often reveal medical related information in billing.
