Possibly- and this could explain lost planes and ships- a Vortex could exist in the area- a whirlpool in reverse, pulling everything down below the sea surface. it is a very rare natural phenomena, but not Impossible- like a surface level Black Hole or localized vacuum would be. There is a Vortex in the Great Lakes which has claimed numerous maritime and aircraft losses.

What makes the compasses go crazy in the Bermuda triangle?
as compasses work on geomagnetism, it would have to be some abnormal magnetic field- this would not, of course affect Gyrocompasses which are non-magnetic- but are driven by electrically-powered motors which drive the vital 53 Pound rotor. if electrical power was affected- they to could go off course. There was a case where a distant ( unknown to the crew) Earthquake in Greece- and logs bore this out- when corrected for time zones- caused the master and steering compasses ( one magnetic, the other Gyro-repeater) to act up in mid=ocean only for a few minutes- which corresponded to the time of the Seismic action. ( King Neptune drinks a bit!) kidding aside- possibly something akin to submarine volcanos, tidal waves, may be taken into account.
