He started out in vaudeville and radio, becoming a very popular entertainer. He took his popularity into films; the most famous arguably being the series of Road movies he did with Bing Crosby and Dorothy Lamour. He was also one of the first people to go overseas to entertain American troops with the USO, and did so for decades. In his later years, he had a series of television specials, including an annual college football player showcase. He was also an avid golfer and promoted the sport (along with Bing Crosby).
