Can a belly button ring get infected?

Belly button rings can cause infection very easily if not cleaned at least once a day. The best way to prevent an infection is to clean it with antibacterial soap, such as Dial, once or twice a day. Applying alcohol or peroxide can dry the skin out and help with infection, so do not use those. Do not use lotions around the belly button as this can cause a moist environment for bacteria to set in and cause infection. The last thing able to prevent an infection is to not touch the piercing until the belly button is healed. Bothering it before then can easily move germs back and forth between the ring and wound, so leave it to set before taking it out.

Piercings by professionals with correct tools are FAR less likely to get infected.

Do you have to get a nose stud before you can get a nose ring?

Enjoy the best of two worlds, what most people don't know and a lot on novice piercers have never learned is there are two ways to do a nostril piercing depending on the jewellery you want to wear.

Nostril piercings done with a ring as the jewellery of choice, need to be pierced parallel to the floor so that a majority of the ring is inside the nasal cavity (the ring should look like it's cuddling the nostril flare on the outside).

Nostril piercings done with a nostril screw (or sometimes called a stud) as the jewellery of choice need to be done at right angles to the side of the nose, this allows the gem to sit as flat as possible on the surface of the side of the nose.

If you want to be able to wear either type of jewellery(stud or a ring) you should get the piercing done with a nostril screw, get through the initial healing period of 6~8 weeks. Then you can get a special ring put into the piercing (it's called a nostril nail, it has a flat disc on one end and is shaped like a ring which is tailor bent by your professional body piercer to cuddle the side of the nose), this ring won't distort the piercing like a normal captive bead or fixed bead ring will. You get to change it up one day you wear a nostril screw the next week you're sporting a nice fitted nostril nail ring.

The key secret to a clean and healthy nostril piercing is to stay to the basics, nostril screws wont cause as much irritation during the initial healing period because there is very little material hanging off the piercing to get caught or snagged.

The less irritation, the better and faster the heal. simply shuffling the screw in and out of the piercing while rinsing the piercing in the shower is the quickest and easiest mean to clean the piercing without all the woo woo aftercare crap everyone tries to sell you. In two weeks time the end of the screw will seem to always be falling down and hanging out of your nose. Annoying Yes, but this is an indication that you are cleaning the piercing properly and it is healing nicely.

A visit to your friendly professional piercer to bend the nostril screw tail angle a bit tighter than 90 degrees will resolve the dropping issue. Carry on with your aftercare daily for the next 4~6 weeks before considering the change to the nostril nail.

The above information is provided to you from a seasoned 20 year professional body piercer and studio owner with thousands of clients with healthy piercings to his credit.

Enjoy your piercings!
