In 2009, when the world economy faced major problems, the sale of luxury items dropped. It placed Botswana in crisis, since they relied so heavily on this single luxury item for income. But if your asking how they lived back in the 1800 then it is way different. they lived a very hard life back then. There was a lot of work to be done in the house and out in the feilds. The men had to go out to the wheat feilds to grow wheat to provide for their families and the wqomen had to stay home and do the house work. Sort of like now but not.
