Which are more expensive cloth diapers or disposable diapers?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Cloth diapers are more expensive but in the long run disposable diapers will usually cost more to you.Cloth diapers you only probably need to buy about 15 in a life time, but they are a pain to clean and change, and they leak more often than a disposable diaper. Also they can sometimes run your water bill really high depending on how you clean them, and a cloth diaper takes longer to change and must be changed quickly or the diaper will leak and smell. Disposable diapers can also leak sometimes but are less likely to. You can buy them in bulk for a cheap price too. They are easier to change and depending on the brand can hold in more waste for longer( like over night disposable diapers unlike cloth diapers because if your baby goes potty while sleeping, you are pretty much guaranteed a leak). I would recommend you buy disposable.

No in short, if you have to wear them to enable you to lead a near normal life ! just so long as you keep your skin as clean as possible at all times and of course your diapers/nappies and your plastic pants then you shouldn't have any worries. Cost of cloth diapers per year?

The cost varies if you use a diaper service or wash them yourself. If you wash them the use of the washer, dryer, ETC would have to be estimated along with the purchasing of enough diapers to last between washings.

Are cloth nappies good for the environment?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

It's not that cloth nappies are good for the environment - after all they still use resources to grow the cotton/bamboo/hemp that are used to manufacture them and you use water and energy to wash them - it's that cloth nappies are not as bad for the environment as regular disposables.

In 2009 a study by the University of Queensland looked into the Life Cycle of both disposable and cloth nappies (from creation of the product to disposal of it) in Australia. The study looked at four environmental indicators: water resource depletion, non-renewable energy depletion, solid waste and land use for resource production. Not only did they find that the water usage between cotton nappies and disposable nappies was comparable (in fact, the same amount of water is used in the production of disposable nappies as in the production and home washing of cotton reusable nappies), they also found that disposables used more energy and more land resources in their production and that disposables generate 20 times more solid waste.

If a cloth user chooses nappies made of more sustainable fabrics such as bamboo or hemp (which use much less water in production than cotton) then the cloth nappy user immediately comes out further ahead in terms of water use. If you use the same nappies for more than one child, you're even further ahead.

But cloth nappies give you the opportunity to do something better for the environment. By choosing to use cloth, you will save several thousand dollars. Take that money and use it to install a water tank, a grey water system, solar hot water, or something else that will offset the resources you are using when you use cloth. You could make your cloth use carbon neutral! Cloth gives you so many more options when it comes to reducing your environmental impact. The money it saves can also let you do something BIG that will help reduce your family's environmental impact well into the future.

How do you cloth diaper teen girls for baptisms?

User Avatar

Asked by Catholicgirl

the teen girls waist is measured.then a package of cloth diapers is purchased and the diapers are laid out flat.the diapers are arranged to match the waist size plus one inch on each side for pinning.the diapers are then sewn together around the edges to make one diaper.on the day of her baptism the diaper is laid on her bed and folded with the sides brought to the middle.the girl then lays down on the diaper, baby powder is then applied.the diaper is brought up between her legs and the front and back corners of each are pinned together with a diaper pin.after the diaper is on and adjusted, the girl raises up her legs and loose fitting rubberpants[plastic pants] are pulled up her legs and over the diaper.if white tights are being worn, they are put on her next over the diaper and rubberpants, other wise the white undershirt is put on her next and tucked into the rubberpants.the lace socks ,booties ,gown and bonnet are then put on her.she is now dressed as an infant for her baptism to symbolize her purity and innocence.when the girls walk around ,the rubberpants can be heard crinkling under the gowns and people know that the girls have regular infant underwear on under their gowns.these baptism outfits are mainly worn by preteen and teen girls in the catholic church, but i have seen a couple who were lutheran who wore these outfits for their baptisms. at our parish the preteen and teen girls wear rubberpants under their baptism and communion dresses.the rubberpants are worn without a diaper and next to the skin at some parishes, the girls now wear disposable diapers with plastic pants over them under their baptism gowns.they are easier to put on and are not quite as bulky as a cloth diaper.the disposable diaper and plastic pants are also worn under the first communion dress also.

How do you wash cloth diaper covers?

User Avatar

Asked by Neila222

Washing covers depends on the material. For wool covers, they must always be handwashed and line dried. For laminated polyester covers, they can be washed in warm water, gentle setting, with the baby's clothes. It is not recommended that they be washed with the diapers. I prefer to hang dry the covers although most will allow for 20 minutes in the dryer at a low setting. Generally, I just handwash my covers daily and let them dry overnight with ivory detergent (this is one of the few dishwashing soaps that are considered a detergent and not a soap. Using soap will undermine the covers waterproofing ability).

Are diapers good for daily use?

User Avatar

Asked by StathamCellulargp7994

Do you have bladder problems? Incontinence products are usually used for people facing weak bladder. Yes they are good for daily use also. However you must be little selective about brands. Do some research on this. You get products which come like an underwear also. These are known to be long lasting and hence easy to use. Made of special material which gives faster absorption and more dryness, these are best for all age groups.

Do you get special diapers for men?

User Avatar

Asked by MicheJonsgp8545

Yes they are available in the market. However not all brands have them. I can recommend you TENA. If I am not wrong the product is named are 'men protective underlevel 4'. You know what this is designed like men's underwear, to fit the anatomy. Good for daily use, these pads are made up of special tissues which keep odor free for long periods. Moreover it is absolutely breathable to avoid sweating. Also there are some standard sizes which fits most men. Functionally this is as good as popular 'depend underwear'.

Instead of using a disposable diaper like what most people use nowadays, you use a cloth diaper, which you wash and reuse. They're a lot better for your baby than a disposable diaper is actually. And they're a LOT cheaper.

When were cloth diapers not used anymore?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Cloth diapers are still used by many people, and are especially popular outside of the United States. They have become much more popular in the US in recent years due to tecnology advances that have created better materials and the popularity of the environmental ('green') movement as well as easier distribution via the internet.

The first disposable diapers became available in the 1950s but were much too expensive for the average family to afford. However by the late 1980's, disposable diapers had become the norm.
