What are effects for snorting Concerta?

Wellbutrin (Bupropion) and Strattera (Atomoxetine) both have less recreational value than caffeine, so snorting coffee powder will probably bring more pleasure.
Concerta (Methylphenidate) is a stimulant that causes an improvement in motivation and attention, and reduces somonolence by increasing alertness. But it does not really make one feel happy or satisfied like many recreational drugs or antidepressants do. So it is often abused by students as an aid to study before an exam.

Concerta is made snort-proof by its manufacturer. Its active ingredient is in the state of a sticky gum concealed inside multiple hard layers of different inert substances to facilitate slow release. Even if someone manages to transform it to powder form and successfully snorts it, the high will probably last less longer than the time taken to prepare the powder.

Also there will be a risk of overdose due to the absence of the slow release mechanism. An overdose of Methylphenidate can cause serious heart arrhythmia and often death.

How do you get a Concerta pill into a powder form?

The concerta pill is maid up of 5 parts on the outside there is a hard shell that can be removed by aplying moderate pressure with a razor blade the shell will crack then can be peeled off with the blade or finger nails. This outside shell is nearly one third of the methylphenidate, so do not dispose of it. The next part of the pill is a plasticy film over the acual pill carfully cut and peall film off with razor. You will be left with a pill that has three colors the white one is the rest of the methylphenidate(ritalin) the other two colors are part of the sustained release system and react with each other to propel the medicine out (think baking soda and vinegar)

Does Concerta have any effect on birth control implants?

There are no known interactions between Concerta (a long-acting methylphenidate/Ritalin type compound) and birth control pills. However, idiosyncratic reactions are always possible. Consult with your physician, if you have any concerns, in your particular case.

How many mgs of Concerta are lethal for a 110 lb female?

That would depend on your tolerance. If you personally have a low tolerance for most drugs, I wouldn't recommend more than 72. However, I know a girl who weighs about 100 lbs who takes a lot more than that. Most people start out on a 36 mg tablet and work their way up until they figure out what works best for them.

Where can you buy concerta?

Yes, as long as you have the proper prescription and are using a legal site, it may be purchased online.

What is the cost of Concerta without insurance?

Approximately $300/18mg 1-a-day pill for a 42-day supply. This drug is Schedule 2, meaning a new prescription must be written every 30 days. Check with your insurance, doctor, and local pharmacy before deciding. Many Insurance companies have a "Brand Name Drug Copayment", meaning you must pay extra for any brand name drugs, including Concerta. No generic version is available currently as there is still a patent on the drug. If price is an issue, research Ritalin and it's generic versions, although these are not 1-per-day drugs.

How do Strattera and Concerta interact?

Interaction of Strattera and Concerta

Our contributors share their experiences:

  • I am a 42-year-old female, a mother of small children, and a student. I struggle with ADD and have done so my entire life, although began taking Adderall only a year or so ago. About 3 months ago, I started taking Stratterra 40 mg instead. The Strattera has a different effect on me than the Adderall. It seems to help with less confusion over how to tackle a project and stay organized. It has not seemed to help me as much with focusing during study time as Adderall. My doctor recommended that I try Concerta or Concerta and Strattera together and today I tried them together (Strattera 40 mg and Concerta 18 mg) and it was a very difficult day. I got a lot done around the house, but inside I felt like a basket case. My 4-year-old kept asking me if I was angry with him. I was short-tempered with my husband, and in class tonight I barely knew what the teacher was lecturing on. Maybe it is just the dosage, but Strattera is a very powerful drug and the side-effects should not be overlooked. It also makes me tired, but, after sleeping a few hours, I wake up and can't go back to sleep (I am writing this at 4 am). All I can say is BE CAREFUL with these drugs because they are very potent and sometimes children are unable to articulate what is going on inside of them. I felt very drugged today when being on both of them.
  • I found that while my son was taking Metadate (about the same as Concerta) he was very uncontrollably hyperactive. I wrote a bit about my experience with this in "What is Straterra?" You might find it helpful.
  • I am 35 year old and take Strattera 80 mg, Concerta 36 mg, and Wellbutrin XL 300 mg. When I first began taking these meds together (I started out taking 18 mg Concerta), I saw little change. But when my MD increased the Concerta to 36 mg, for once in my life I felt "normal." My thoughts were clearer. My attention span increased. I was less impulsive.

BUT, after 3 months, it seems my meds stop working around 3-4 pm, so my MD may have to increase my dosage of Concerta again. I do not feel as if this combo of drugs is dangerous. They have given me back my life and sense of self worth. I also have a psychiatrist who, I trust, would not put me on something that may not be safe. Maybe it's not for everyone, but I'm going to hang in there with my current meds, even if I do have to increase the dosage occasionally. Question your child about how he feels. If he's doing better on these drugs with few side-effects it's a heck of a lot better than how he felt when he was on meds that didn't help him. Believe me I know. Having ADD or ADHD (my 5-year-old great nephew has ADHD) is a battle. It has taken me 35 years to find the right combo of meds that work for me. Discuss with your child's doctor all of your questions and concerns. I do recommend a psychiatrist - not a general practitioner - if you're using your general practioner to prescribe meds.

  • My son was taking Concerta 27 mg. He was 8 and pretty thin/lanky when he started. The Concerta helped his focus at school, although at home in the evening it was horrible... he was irritable, angry, picking arguments with siblings, no patience. We were going to switch to Strattera to see if that was better (Adderall had already been tried: it had worked, then all of a sudden just stopped being effective). During the ramp-up week where you take both, I noticed an improvement. When he stopped the Concerta, inattention was a big problem at school again (but he was happy/good mood). I asked the doctor if he could take both together, since he had been doing so well on both. The teacher said (and I agree) that he is like a "normal" kid at school with both medications. I recommending giving it a try if there are mood type or depressive type issues with your child. My stick-thin child went through times where he ate little, but he gradually got his appetite back. He weighed 53 pounds before, and a year and a half later he is 66 pounds and taller. I'm thankful for these medications being developed... a real lifesaver for kids trying to succeed in the pressure-cooker of today's classrooms.
  • I am taking 54 mg Concerta with 50 mg of Strattera. I saw slight improvements to my adult ADHD with 18 mg of Strattera. Each increase in dose produced marginal improvements. Adding Concera made a big difference to focus. Have seen no adverse side-effects so far.

I was very skeptical about psychological medication until it helped me. Now I have a promotion at work and am getting more done.

  • I have been taking Concerta 50 mg for quite some time daily and when a few hour dose is needed I use 10 mg Ritalin. The side-effects I experience with the use of Concerta are dizziness, tiredness, fluctuations in mood, bursts of anger for no justifiable reason and a feeling of intense nausea. However, the ability of the drug to enable concentration far outweighs the side-effects in my context as I am a engineering student; it would be practically impossible to pass without it. The 10 mg Ritalin, however, has no noticeable side-effects and allows for a short burst of concentration for an exam, for example. I have been told by many people that it is all in the mind, but once you use Concerta it is undeniable that is makes a remarkable difference. It is well worth using prescribed drugs rather than not using any at all. However, the use of these drugs should be monitored carefully and should be talked through with a neurologist! I attempted to use Strattera for a period of time, but it did not have any impact or change on my mental state. The side-effects listed are, of course, short-term effects I have experienced on a regular basis personally. The long-term effects of Concerta are known to be minimal; however, care must be taken with Ritalin as it has not undergone a great deal of testing - and the long-term effects are sketchy.
  • I am 17 and have been taking both since 6th grade. One of my hobbies is playing video games and I just recently noticed that, when I take my medicine, all i want to do is play video games - nothing else! But when I don't take them, I am like a normal teenager: I want to hang out with people, etc. I have also noticed when I don't take it, I sometimes can't even decide what I want to do.

Just yesterday I threw up due to really bad heartburn, which, I know for a fact, was caused by one or the other or both.

How long do side effects last with Concerta?

It depends on the person's metabolism! My son who is now 14 and 115 lbs has been taking Ritalin for years. As he has grown, he has needed a higher and more frequent dose due to his high metabolism. Concerta 54 mg long lasting is supposed to last 12 hrs. It lasts about 4 to 5 hrs for my son. He has to take a 10mg Ritalin in the afternoon to get through the school day.

I take 36mg of concerta in the morning, and it has an effect for about 8-10 hours, and I have a relatively fast metabolism. However, people who take concerta gradually build up a tolerance for the drug, and over time it becomes less effective. I feel the drug's impact on my body, but it isn't nearly so strong as it was 5 years ago. ^^ I would advise that you look into other ways to address your child's ADD/ADHD such as behavioral therapy or a different school setting that is better suited to his/her way of learning. I started on concerta when I was 18 for my ADD, and it changed me forever...sure, it helped me concentrate and my marks improved...but it wasn't worth it at all. Besides the psychological dependance that I now have, I also suffer from side effects, some of which are actually dangerous...I developed anorexia pretty much directly after I started taking it (which I have thankfully been able to overcome, for the most part) and I now have recurring heart palpitations and generalized anxiety, and a day without the drug is hell...all of my symptoms come back much stronger, and I feel so tired and depressed it's hard to get out of bed. It might be legal, but it's basically prescription speed...sorry for the earful, but it makes me really sad when I hear about children being prescribed this drug.

Is Adderall more effective than Concerta?

Answer: Concerta and Adderall aren't very much different at all, except Adderall is more effective and Concerta has less side effects. They both are dopamine reuptake inhibitors. Adderal just seems to be more potent. Concerta is less addictive as well. hope this helps, Megan.******

Can you take Solpadeine with Concerta?

Codeine is OK to take while on concerta, however, be careful with a codeine cough syrup. Some codeine cough syrup also contains Pseudophedrine Hydrochloride, a decongestant. Pseudophedrine Hydrochloride will react with concerta and cause nervousness, shakiness, increased heart rate, and anxiety. The reason being is that concerta is a Central Nervous System (CNS) stimulant and so is Pseudophedrine Hydrochloride, causing a "double whammy" to your CNS. It depends from person to person on if the codeine will cause drowsiness or wakeuflness.

How long do 54 mg Concerta side-effects last?

Are there side effects to Lexapro and Concerta together?

I have been on this combination for a year now (10 mg Lexapro, which I just upped to 20 mg) and 36 mg of Concerta. I can't see any large side effects to taking both together, except perhaps excess sweating. Take Concerta in the morning only, especially if you have trouble falling asleep at night.

Can you use Concerta with LSD?

I wouldn't advise it at all. MDMA is a stimulant and in combination with the concerta will likely significantly increase blood pressure, heart rate, and could result in a heart attack. Also, MDMA effects the release/reuptake of serotonin, as does Lexapro (which is an SSRI). It is possible that this combination could lead to Serotonin Syndrome or at least a longer hangover after taking the MDMA.

Has it been proven that Concerta possibly stunts growth or puberty in adolescents or causes other similar problems?

The latest research on Ritalin (of which Concerta is a derivative) showed that there is no long term growth difference in people who have taken the medication vs. those who have not (meaning they will end up being the same height if all other variables are accounted for). The medication can cause a slight delay in starting puberty, although the effect is not as great as people used to believe. As drugs become older and are studied more, data can be collected to see if this is still the case for the newer ADHD meds. I took Ritalin for a short time when I was 10 or 11 and I am 13 now and I am going through puberty normally

What s the difference between Vyvanse and Concerta?

My Son has tourettes and tics, but both have been very minimal in the past few years. He feels he needs something to help his ADHD so his Neurologist (World Renoun) has prescribed 18mg of Concerta. I'm confused, as the warnings specify "not to be used with patients having touretts & tics.

Does Concerta show up in a drug test?

Mixing Concerta with provigil?

Yes; Concerta and Provigil both contain central nervous system stimulants. All stimulants should be taken in the early morning or before lunch to prevent sleeplessness from occurring. Taking a stimulant later in the day can cause insomnia.

Can you take clonzepham with Concerta?

Yes. clonazepam (Klonopin) is a benzodiazepine sedative like Xanax (alprazolam) and Valium (diazepam). Concerta (methylphenidate) is just time released Ritalin which is a stimulant.

The drug combination of clonazepam with methylphenidate will be the counteraction of the psychological "upper" and "downer" feelings of the two drugs.

I take 20mg Adderall XR for ADHD every morning, and 0.5mg Xanax as needed for panic attacks (which are rare, I fill my Xanax script once or twice a year, if that).

How long does Concerta stay in your system if you take it apart and chew it?

For each person the time will vary depending on weight and dosage. I weigh 130 and if I take a 36 mg out of the casing, and then swallow it it lasts for 4-5 hours instead of 7-8. The pill effects are more noticeable since all of the medication is released at once instead of time release. You may be more jittery, but you will be more focused also.

What is the recommended dosage of Concerta for a 92-pound person?

The recommanded dosage is always the lowest working dose. If 18mg allows good results, then it is the correct dosage. We start at a low dose, and we increased if we don't get any result after a week trial.

Blood volume, brain chemistry and metabolism are the basic determining factors for what dose is ineffective, effective or "high".

Concerta is available in 18mg, 27mg, 36mg, 54mg and 72mg extended release capsules.

18mg is the common starting dose for children and 18mg to 36mg for adults depending on discretion of the doctor.

The maximum dosage of Concerta should not be greater than 0.9 mg per pound of body weight.

For people switching to Concerta from Ritalin, the dosage requires careful consideration because 18mg of Concerta is much different then 18mg of Ritalin due to Concerta's precision time release mechanism.

The following chart outlines the dosage equivalents.

18 mg Concerta = 4 mg Ritalin 3 times per day

27 mg Concerta = 6 mg Ritalin 3 times per day

36 mg Concerta = 8 mg Ritalin 3 times per day

54 mg Concerta = 12 mg Ritalin 3 times per day
