What did the geocentric theory say?
It said that the Earth was in the center and the Sun, Moon, and other planets revolved around it. But this theory was wrong.
Why did people think that Copernicus was wrong?
Everyone thought that the sun orbits the Earth and all other planets but Copernicus studied the ski carefully. He found out that the Earth and all other Planets orbits the sun and the earth is not the centre of the universe. The sun is.
The astronomer who agreed with the heliocentric theory?
There was more than one astronomer who agreed with the heliocentric theory and was imprisoned for his investigations. The astronomers were Copernicus, John Dalton, Lamarck, and Galileo.
What are some of Copernicus' discoveries and contributions?
he discovered that the earth revolved around the sun (heliocentricity) and at that time everyone believed that the sun/planets revolved around the earth (geocentricity)
How did nicolaus Copernicus find out that the eartth was in the center?
Nicolaus Copernicus discovered that the earth WAS NOT the center of the universe using math and science to form his theories.
How did Copernicus and Brahe differ in their views about the universe?
Copernicus thought that is was heliocentric theory ( that the earth revolves around the sun) and Brahe thought that it was geocentric ( that everything revolves aroung the earth )
What observations did Copernicus make?
He put the sun at the centre of the solar system, not the Earth as favoured by religion.
What struggles did Copernicus have in life?
We know very little what events Nicolae Copernicus viewed as "struggles," as he never wrote much about his inner thoughts. We can only speculate.
Amongst events that may have made his life difficult for Nicolae:
1) His father died when he was 10. His maternal uncle then became his benefactor and major employer.
2) When Nicolae uncle attempted to have him installed in a church post, the order (for reasons still unknown) refused. Nicolae then went to Rome to study canon law.
3) It took him seven years to get a degree while in Italy, indicating a lack of devotion to study in that specific field. Again, we don't know the details.
4) During the time he was an adminstrative assistant to his uncle, the city of Warmia was often under attack from Teutonic Knights.
5) Despite urgings from his friends and co-workers, Nicolae refused to publish his heliocentric ideas, fearing attacks for "the novelty and incomprehensibility of his theses."
How did Kepler expand on Copernicus' ideas?
Kepler showed that planetary orbits were actually ellipses, not circles as proposed by Copernicus.
In 1543 what did Copernicus propose?
Luke roudabush
The Heliocentric Theory.
- which is the idea that the stars, the earth, and the other planets revolve
around the sun.
Who discovered that the sun is the rest center of the universe?
it was Nicolaus Coppernicus who discoveered that the sun is the rest center of the universe
Why was Nicolas corpernicus' theory rejected?
It was because people that that his calculations were not accurate and also because his calculations of the astronomical positions was not made easy. It was hard to understand
What evidence arose that proved the geocentric model wrong?
It was proven wrong because that they were eclipse and change of seaon.
What is geocentric vs heliocentric?
The Geocentric Theory states that the Earth is the center of the universe, and that all other objects orbit around it. The Heliocentric Theory states that the Sun is the center of the universe, and all other objects orbit around it. Of course, the Heliocentric Theory is correct, since all astronomical objects orbit around the Sun.
