The X-men have many weaknesses, all human in nature. One of their biggest is that they ARE indeed human and sometimes forget that they don't always get along with each other. Another is that they don't always respond to each other's mutations in the best way possible. Most super heroes are more science adventure or science fantasy because they concentrate on the action and characters rather than getting the science correct. It is not realistic to get super hero powers from a radioactive spider bite or the ability to become invisible from cosmic rays.

Storm aka Ororo Iqadi T'Challa, née Munroe has the ability to produce harsh weather : lightining, rain, tempests, wind to defeat obstacles, produce electricity and mainly kick ass and look cool doing it. she is also one of the leaders of the team and one of the main charcacters

In the past, Jean has been able to tap into the cosmic "Phoenix Force" -- literally the fires of creation. When employing this force, Jean's powers are magnified to unlimited degrees. As Phoenix, she was able to manipulate energy on a planetary scale, rearrange molecules, warp reality, travel in time, come back from the dead and potentially do anything just by thinking about it. Her powers were limited only by her imagination and there was serious concern that she would consume the entire universe.

I just noticed this continuity error as well... The only thing I can think of to save the continuity is that it isn't actually Professor X walking, but an image he is projecting of himself, while he is sitting in his wheelchair in the helicopter.
