The best thing about dancing is that there are no real rules. But there are things to keep in mind as you add your own flavor and creativity to it.
- Dance on beat. There are at least two reuccuring beats in every song, just choose the one you like the best. There is the skim beat, or top beat. It is the beat of the singer singing. You can throw in the moves at this beat or the under beat or base of the song.
- Always make sure you modify the choreography according to your comfort. That is not to say that you have to completely alter the entire routine, but every dancer is unique. Try to do what feels like more of you.
- Always interpret the song and prepare the dance beforehand since the last minute performance could only get better with prior preparation.
- If you have a partner, never try to outshine them. Work towards making the dance better collectively.
- The most important rule is have fun. Your dancing is of no use if you did not enjoy it. Your true colours show in your dance. Don't hide them, flaunt them. Be sexy, elegant, eccentric, modest, scared, happy all at the same time. If you forget the moves, just do whatever comes to your body.
